Training

Through the generous support of three preeminent area fitness facilities/programs — Sportsplex and Fitness Matters, and TriStar Athlete — Stamford KIC IT Triathlon athletes can take advantage of generous training and nutrition programs designed to enhance personal performance. Athletes can receive:

  • Free membership to Sportsplex, 49 Brownhouse Road, Stamford from April 1, 2010 – June 27, 2010. (Limited availability to the first 150 fundraising athletes)
  • Four free clinics with Ironman participant and noted triathlon coach Peter Berrisford. These sessions will focus on nutrition, swim techniques, bike techniques and running techniques

  • On Saturdays and Sundays in February and March, Fitness Matters will offer free group classes in suspension training and yoga; both classes have a specific focus designed to help tri athletes
  • From April 1, 2010, through June 18, 2010, fundraising athletes can receive free, twice a week one-on-one personal training with Dr. Heather Gansel and her highly trained staff at Fitness Matters. Space is limited to the first 20 athletes. Contact Dr. Heather Gansel at heather@fitnessmatters.com for more information and to sign up.
  • During the month of May, fundraising athletes can experience the latest in fitness training with TRX Body Blast Classes at Fitness Matters. These challenging classes take place Sundays (May 2, 9, 16 and 23) at 9:30 a.m. Class size is limited to 10 people. Contact Dr. Heather Gansel at heather@fitnessmatters.com for more information and to sign up.
  • For two Sundays in June 2010, fundraising athletes can participate in Melinda Loo’s power yoga class at Fitness Matters for free. These 75 minute classes will get your body completely ready for the big day. Classes take place June 6, 2010, and June 13, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. Space is limited to 15 people. Contact Dr. Heather Gansel at heather@fitnessmatters.com for more information and to sign up.
  • Cliff Scherb of TriStar Athlete will lead a course preview group ride before the triathlon, and will conduct a Question and Answer session after the ride.
  • Training programs can cost $1,000 or more. Be sure to sign up as a fundraiser and benefit from our free training programs!

Last year, Kids in Crisis helped more than 7,300 children and families in Connecticut. Participating in the Stamford KIC IT Triathlon means we can continue to provide comprehensive care that makes a difference in the lives of infants, children and teens.
